The Sport of Kings Returns to the Roodee on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 September with fun for all the f

Grab a picnic and head down to the Roodee on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 September for the much anticipated Boodles Roodee Challenge Cup. Watch four Cheshire polo teams battle it out on the historic site for a chance to win £10,000 in prize money. Team sponsors include Laurent-Perrier, Boodles, Controlled Event Solutions and Old Mutual Wealth, whilst tournament umpires will be sponsored by Stella Artois.

Entry to the polo is free on Friday 8 September and just £8 for adults of Saturday 9 September. Under 18’s are invited to visit free of charge*, making a day at the polo ideal late summer day out.

This year Chester Polo have invited independent businesses down to the Racecourse to showcase their wears in a pop-up area in the general admission enclosure. Exhibitors will include the well-known luxury canine brand Hugo and Otto, Tarporley based boutique, Hoity Toity Shoes, polo specialists Roxtons and a number of other beautiful Cheshire based brands.

In addition to the luxury pop-ups, Chester Polo will be providing a host of complimentary activities for younger visitors to enjoy. Have a go at croquet or one of the other traditional lawn games or have they can have their face painted. Young polo enthusiasts are also invited to have a go at polo on our wooden horse, swing a stick and try and hit the ball. It’s harder than in looks!

Chester Polo have also collaborated with Manchester based company, Square Pegs. They will be bringing their colourful horse trailer filled with crafts for children to get involved in, from screen printing to mask making.

The Old Bean Photo Booth will also be in attendance, inviting visitors to get a family snap in their bright green horse trailer, grab a prop from their box of tricks and strike a pose. You’ll even get a free print out to take home with you.

Gates open on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 September at midday, the first match will kick off at around 2:30pm. Tickets can be purchased from or on the gate on the day.

Free car parking is available on both days of the tournament on the Open Course. Picnics are permitted at the polo, but must adhere to the Racecourse Picnic Policy. (
